Japan Festival 2014

Postby bakamatt » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:22 am

Not a lot of content on the site yet, but let's throw this out here:

http://www.kcjapanfestival.org/

October 11, a bit later than usual?

(At least they didn't just recycle the previous year's site, like usual.)

Tim, we gonna do spaghetti and Castle of Cagliostro after, or do you prefer an alternative date?

For you new folk, the Japan Festival is largely a mainstream event, with displays of kimono, ikebana, bonsai, and architecture; plus talks on aspects of Japanese culture and history; and performances of traditional Japanese music and dance - if you've never seen taiko drums, you oughta and this is a good chance.

And, once they figured out how many memberships they could sell catering to anime fandom, they gave us our own little anime ghetto in back that in the past has featured such things as screenings, imported video games, and dealers in manga and imported swag. So it's definitely an event on the KC anime calendar.

You read my mind. When I left for work this morning I made a mental note to myself to see if a date was schedule so I could post here. Hah, I love the image they picked for their 'Volunteer' section. I'm game for spaghetti and Castle of Cagliostro any time; it doesn't have to be on the day of the festival as far as I"m concerned. Mostly I just need a little advance notice to clean the place up a but ahead of time.

Yeah they used to have it at the end of September. Had to laugh at the discount on Advanced Ticket Sales. Buy ahead & get the same price as at the door all the other years. Still whats $2? A bargain.

Always the dunce I don't get (or remember) the spaghetti / Castle of Cagliostro connection. At any rate is it kosher to eat spaghetti with chop sticks?

Launch party from Tim's Enchanted Keep?

Chief was complaining that the scene in the restaurant fairly early on makes her crave spaghetti. I found the concept of Cagliostro and spaghetti in general compelling.

You're worth forgiving almost anything, Scott. But not that.

The J fest date has fallen on my B'day a couple of times as well. Man the best place to celebrate your Birthday is at the Japanese festival! Have your family & friends join you There!

As much as I'd like to do that, my mom's Korean. Probably don't have to say more. ;)

Best I can do is to come back a little early and try to catch the tail end of it, which what I'm going to try!

Ok, some logistics to work out or maybe tradition will have to take a rain check. So I've got a company picnic that same day that I'm obliged to at least make an appearance at. As it happens it's between 5 and 7 at the park across the street from my place. So either we all do the traditional gathering at my place and I bail from the festival at dusk or everyone just drives straight to the festival this year.

I'm kind of thinking maybe rain check this year regarding your place. I'd not be offended; you've got an awful lot going on at the moment.

'Couse, you'll have to make it up to us with the Cagliostro screening and spaghetti feed some day...

It'd be a shame not to see you at all this time around, to be certain,
but if you think you'll be too busy this year to do it, I definitely understand!
I'll leave it completely at your discretion.

Yeah I 2nd the motion. Why not take a year off from the hassles of hosting & just enjoy J Fest? If you want to hitch a ride I'll be glad to swing by Sat Morn.

Well we will (hopefully) see all at J Fest prime time, eh?

Besides Tim's Back Deck is always open!

TMuse, if you're going to be at the con there's almost no chance of missing each other so no worries there. The picnic is a couple of hours tops so there may be time to do stuff after. Maybe I can message someone when I'm heading back to see if anyone wants to hang out? I guess it's right at the end of the festival so maybe that's not practical. Hmmm....

Ooh! Good call. He could even leave the glass door unlocked. It would be entirely coincidental if that cold-cast Tutu went missing afterwards...
