Yoki+Minsky's+Dark Star=Lucky Best Fun

Postby Kokon Tozai » Mon Jun 23, 2014 12:26 pm

Earlier I made a post about visiting the Yoki Store in River Market area & then having a lunch at Minsky's close by. Elsewhere in another post Matt has hyper-endorsed & raved about a must see movie, an old classic (just like Matt) film by John Carpenter, Dark Star. Why not combine?

I propose that we form a committee to study the proposition of considering the reality of:

Meeting at Minsky's about 11 am Saturday July 5th. Trek a couple of blocks to the Yoki store then back to Minsky's for eats & drinks. Afterward to my home Bassment Theater to watch Dark Star (Blu-rei on the way). Matt also might show some similar vintage Cutey Honey eps to indulge in. And myself I certainly would like to offer the new OVA's of Ghost in the Shell: Arse. Watch any of 1>3 eps I should have by then.

Otaku math shows there should be ample time for sampling or marathoning other good stuff.

Any takers?

I think I'm down for that! For the movie viewing I may need to bring along a girlfriend to insure that I have a ride back.

I believe we're in, and thanks for your trouble!

I don't want to seem to back-pedal, but I'd never claim that Dark Star is a "must see classic" for anyone not already a John Carpenter fan; as I said, it's a cherished movie from my youth and one we loved to quote and still do on occasion. We re-watched it a few months ago; I still think it's clever and funny.

But it's also a film-school project, made on a tiny budget; somewhat refined and improved for theatrical release but anything but polished, so lets manage expectations here.

Jas - is your lady friend going to be okay with Cutey Honey? This is the original, so it's very tame ecchi, but ecchi nevertheless. (And whaddya mean, "a girlfriend"? You got more than one? Geez, you artists!)

Zero... Very glad you can make it. Moved close to River Market now? I assume your cats made the move too? Then your going to have to take them to the Yoki Store the following weekend as well:

They don't like road trips, but they seem to like the new place

So long as there’s room, I’d love to come! I’ve had my eye on that shop ever since it was posted. I’ve wanted to see GITS Arise (or Arse according to original post) and since Funimation didn’t chose KC for its Tugg initial cities, this would be a great time to see it. Anime Expo is streaming some of their panels/events, so I might suggest that for extra viewing content. They haven’t put out a timetable of what they are streaming, so not sure what’s on the plate.

Looking forward to Scott's amazing digs (and the dog)! \((=゚▽゚)/ワーイ

So long as there’s room,

Eh, there would be room for you even if The Dog and I had to hover on the ceiling!

Matt'nRita (should be a tequila drink), jas + gf, Zero & kawrou5. Yatta!
GitS Arse spelled just for Tim who we haven't heard from yet. Hope he can make it as he is the guy in actual possession of the Dark Star disc:

I'm definitely in for the movie but I might bail on the River Market trip if only because I loathe driving down there.

Yeah sure I spend 20mins driving around in circles the last two blocks to get to Minsky's. I'll be glad to give you lift if you want to meet at my house about 10:30. Ten minues to on I35 & 20 mins being so close but so far away from the Minsky parking lot.

Thank you. That works well for me. Anything I can bring besides the movie?
