CurtCon 2017

Postby Tsunami3k » Sun Oct 08, 2017 9:46 pm

Curt Con is set this year for the weekend before Black Friday, as usual, which puts it on November 18th this year. I've been chatting with him while he's been shopping in Japan and it sounds like there will be some pretty cool stuff this year presuming the packages arrive in time. Depending on how ambitious we want to be this year we can tweak our launch time vs. last year however we want. IIRC we topped off our hit points with breakfast beforehand last time.

Yuppers, I'm in. A fine way to inaugurate nine blissful days away from work - I'm taking all of Thanksgiving week off.

I suggest we kidnap Scott this year. Any word from Josh or Brian or anyone else?

I’m a 98% yes. My sister is moving the Monday after so I may have to help but we’re doing as much work as we can this weekend. Also, I don’t anticipate buying much this year b/c I already splurged enough for this month, but if Curt brought back some interesting things from Japan I can always go for more.

Ooh, very nice! Is that what would be considered a "color model cel"? (BTW, MilkaCow is back up, presumably for the holidays, and they have a bunch of CCS color model cels [but probably none you haven't already seen]).

Hope you can make it; more is always merrier. If you could use an extra pair of hands for the move, let me know. I'd be glad to close up that 2% uncertainty gap.

I'm not anticipating a huge spend myself this year: October/November have been really expensive.

But I know I can rely on you all to refrain from calling my attention to really nice $100 cels...

Nothing from Mr. Scott?

I'll probably drive. If anyone ends up riding with me and they want to bring a flash drive or an iPod, the car I'm driving now has a USB port and I have an iPod adaptor. (And otherwise, you'll have to listen to my playlist.) However, I kind of got the feeling last time that those friends of Shawn's that rode with me were somewhat put out by how long I stayed there, so that should be taken under advisement.

Curt's last Facebook post cites an opening time of noon, but he says he's open to starting earlier than that. Tim, has anything been said about that regarding us specifically?

One more time, with feeling... (thanks Mr. Scott!)

So is the presumption that we intend to grab breakfast at 7 and head out at 8 like we did last year?

Decision-time is running short peeps. Does anyone have any thought about my previous scheduling plan or anything regarding a concrete time-frame? Also, I plan to bring a big powerbank for keeping phone juice topped off in case anyone would find it useful.

Looks like Curt's latest facebook post shows a start time of 10am, so we would have to leave by 8am to get there by opening. I'm fine with 7am breakfast and 8am leaving, but if others want to leave a little later I'm not adverse to that either. I'll wait for Tim to make a decision later tonight and set my alarm accordingly. I've already made by stop by the bank.

Thanks for the offer of hands, but we made good work the past weeks so Saturday is a go. The cel is an on-screen production cel used in the omake segment where Kero goes into detail about that episode's costume. A color model cel wouldn't go for that much since they are duplicated for multiple cel painters and sometimes have color variations not used in the final product.

I'd be pleased to be on the road south out of OP by 8:00 AM. Other than that, I'm also fine with breakfast at 7:00, in which case I'll try to be at Tim's by 6:45.

Thanks for the phone widget, Tim. I'm reminded of mana crystals and other power-replenishers from RPGs.
