If you wanted to try absinthe, you didn't have to go all the way to China; I could have hooked you up with some of my hipster friends back in San Diego.

I don't envy you the experience - I have no desire to live in such a strange place - but I envy that you can so embrace the experience. So let us know how Wednesday goes some time. And about the underwear thing.

Yeah I'm getting the idea that each point is but a morsel of a greater story and that the stories they represent are but just a few from a much larger pool. Can't wait to see which ones get further elaboration!

I'm set to come back July 29th. I'll be in KC for 3 weeks and LA for one week. During my 3 weeks in KC I plan on staying out in Overland park for a few days. So hopefully we can all have a short meetup!

I need to update the blog. I have a backlog of stuff to upload.

下雨 rain (2015)

Not too bad for an amateur filmmaker, eh? I have so many videos of China and compiling them chronologically wasn't working so I compiled them based on various themes. The first theme is rain. When I first arrived in China the first cultural difference I noticed was how people deal with rain. Shop and restaurant doors are left wide open even with the rain blowing in. Red carpets are left taped to the sidewalk, soaking up water. Phone stores still put out speakers blasting pop music, even as water starts distorting the sound. Four people on a scooter each holding an umbrella for themselves is pretty common to see. I wish that I captured all of those things on film but I was pretty new to everything and neglected to do so. Filming the damage from a 3-joining-into-one-giant typhoon was pretty crazy.

Hey guys! Tonight I leave to go back to China! It was great seeing a few of you and hope to see everyone else next visit!

I talked briefly with you guys about the travel agency I used, Gateway USA, to go back and forth and I think they are pretty useful since they specialize in traveling to Asia. So if you were thinking of planning a trip to Japan you may check with them first to see what kind of deals they have. Ask for Leslie, she is awesome!

Until next time!

It was good seeing you too, and seeing you doing so well.

Thanks for the reminder on the travel agent; I'd meant to ask but forgot.

Ha!
I had the pleasure of meeting Kimby at work yesterday. Naturally the conversation fell to all things Asian, anime, j pop etc. She remarked that she had a friend was really into anime, cospaly & stuff from here locally. Said he's been teaching English in China for two years now. So I se4z what's his name? She says Jas & we both say Carpenter at the same time.

She is super nice, smart & interesting. Into everyday a little sunshine falls. I found out more specifically that you'll be back in town around July 20th.

Haha Kimby is awesome! I'm really glad you got the chance to meet her. If I remember right she is not a big fan of anime or maybe that's changed. And knowing Kimby she of course got my return date wrong! I'll be back between June 26-August 29th.
