I find it strange that my non-otaku friends are the ones introducing me to videos like this and the PONPONPON one.

Lots of otherwise uninterested folk like to play "what's the latest weird thing out of Japan."

Shooting fish in a barrel, you ask me.

That makes total sense, like they follow certain geek blogs or something. To spread the word of a Korean pop song is still odd to me. I dig the song in fact, maybe that's the only reason.

It's surprising when I realize that I don't know that I've ever been exposed to any K-pop. I don't know if it's just that I haven't heard any or that I haven't caught any songs that have made an impression on me yet. I don't even remember if I listened to the links posted here yet! Clearly I have some research to do tonight.

Interesting column a few days old taken from Metropolis:

I am definitely getting into more Korean music, film, & TV as time goes by. I haven't run across any K animation ... except for that which is outsourced.

I've just finished my first Korean film, The Chaser, DVD from Netflix. Some of the local radio reviewers described it as a top-notch thriller. The casting, acting, direction, and photography were all quite solid, and it was interesting to see a film set in a Korean city. But it was very, very harsh on some characters; almost more than I could handle.

Can't say I've seen a lot of good Korean movies, a lot that get imported are pretty campy. One I did find along time ago that I liked was Samaritan Girl. It was about these 2 high school girls prostituting themselves and when one of the dads finds out he starts stalking her and confronting her clients after they finish. It got really dark at times, my style a movie. :)
