Recommendations for DMP Titles?

Postby Tsunami3k » Mon Jun 20, 2011 7:27 pm

TRSI is having a DMP manga sale for the next few days. Any manga gurus out there have any suggestions for must-haves from their lineup?

I'd be curious to read the Demon City Shinjuku novel or the Yoshitoshi Abe Lain Illustrations Book. But otherwise they have Berserk, Trigun and Vampire Hunter D, which I've never read but saw the animes for.

I read one of the novels for Vampire Hunter D. It was good. It seemed to cover the material from the original film

I've got the artbook (Japanese ver. I think) and it's quite good. I'm not sure why but Demon City Shinjuku rings a bell. Aren't Berserk and Trigun DarkHorse titles?

Maybe they are the novels? It doesn't specify.

Demon City Shinjuku is a cool anime movie that once aired on the SciFi channel. One of my favorites! Similar in style to Wicked City.

The ISBN listed for both of those titles comes back as Darkhorse. I am not sure why there are listed as DMP. Maybe DMP just sells them in their store. If you can get Berserk for cheap, get it.

From wikipedia:

"In America and the United Kingdom, the manga is translated and co-published between Dark Horse Comics and Digital Manga Publishing, which has released 34 volumes so far, the first on October 22, 2003. As with other Dark Horse manga releases like Hellsing or Trigun Maximum, the Japanese reading format, from right to left, is preserved in the English release (sound effects are untranslated in earlier releases, though this started with volume 12) at the author's request."

That's very odd. Demon City Shinjuku and [I think] Vampire Hunter D are in TRSIs DMP sale whereas Berserk and the rest are listed as Dark Horse properties (and not in the sale). It sounds like they're both involved with the titles so I'm curious as to how TRSI chooses to credit these titles in cases like this.

Anyhow, Berserk is excellent and I'm already read up on it but next Dark Horse sale I'll take a peek at Trigun for sure.

It's probably because the Berserk title sells real well, and the other ones don't.
