The Next-Generation - Patlabor - live-action movie

Any thoughts on this? I love Oshii and absolutely loved his take with the previous animated movies, but his directing for live-action films is not as solid. So that's the only concern I have.

The only 'toon to live adaptation, English or Japanese, that ever worked for me was Speed Racer. Hence, while I'm a big fan of the Patlabor franchise - indeed am currently re-watching it in the new release of the TV series - I can't say I especially care about this.

But there's been several good manga/anime to film adaptions (Nana, Mushi-shi, Death Note, Gantz, Ichi the Killer, Tomie) so have a lil hope, eh!

But there also been some complete messes created from adaptions....

At the very least, a cute girl is involved. Oshii is supposed to direct

It's set after the existing series/movies, so it's a whole new cast of characters. My expectations are set especially low for this, but I'll definitely give it a watch.

Oh come on Matt. Take a good look at her photo and tell me it's not obvious that she'd play Ota. (Just imagine her hands extending upward into a classic post-recoil gun pose.)

Mamoru Oshii demanded that they build a full scale giant robot for the film instead of using CGI. But he thinks that giant bipedal robots are not possible “I was always working with the subtle theme that practical use of bipedal giant robots is impossible,” http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/04/14/g ... %E3%80%91/

From what I've seen, they're using full-sized models and CGI.

And I don't know what else you'd expect from Oshii; the guy always is a downer.

I am a little confused, exactly how many live action Patlabor films are there, and what are these "chapters" they are talking about http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2 ... -chapter-7

My understanding is that when it's done there will be something like seven half-hour "episodes" that will be like the TV episodes (which is to say, somewhat silly sometimes); and then one movie that will be like the movies (rather more serious).
