Ghost in the Shell: Arise

Postby Tsunami3k » Sun Feb 17, 2013 12:12 pm

A new GitS property is in the works. The setting has always had limitless possibilities so I suppose it's no surprise to see another exploration of the future. It's a prequel so we should probably get some interesting back story with this one:

It's a prequel. They're allegedly far less cybernetic at this point.

That trailer just sold me on the new series. Music is a key element to the GitS series and whatever song was playing was heavenly.

Really I want Oshii to direct another movie but that is just a dream.

It's a curious departure from Yoko Kanno which did the TV series and OAV soundtracks but instead they went with "Cornelius". I don't claim to be a bit familiar with the artist but, I agree, the style matches the show very nicely. I think I detect a subtle hint of Kanno's style blended within it which, if true, would be a cool nod from one artist to another.

Hmm I gotta say, I'm not a great fan of Kanno's work so I'm happy with the departure. Her style is so vast/encompassing that I have only ever enjoyed a handful of tracks.

Though maybe she is similar to the Beatles, if someone thinks they don't like the Beatles then they probably haven't listened to them enough to find the "right" Beatles style.

I'm digging it big time. It's really got me wanting to do a Stand Alone Complex marathon.

After the anniversary party let's getting something set-up! I wanna be there for it because I'm not sure I've seen all of the episodes, or at least not in order.

The new character design of Makoto definitely threw me off at first, but I think I'll be able to get used to it. The music is indeed beautiful, and trailer makes me hopeful for an interesting and unique plot. We shall see.

From the industry panel at AX. Funimation is fancying themselves to be another Aniplex

Ghost in the Shell Arise Part 1: August, 20, 2013; SRP $69.98
15:52:25 <bay|AX|FUNi> Japan collector's edition part 1
15:52:32 <bay|AX|FUNi> imported blu-ray (sub only)

15:52:37 <bay|AX|FUNi> imported film strip
15:52:41 <bay|AX|FUNi> art book (english translated)

15:53:19 <bay|AX|FUNi> this is the first time ever we've ever done this
15:53:36 <bay|AX|FUNi> and we're planning to do more with this (jp imports)
15:53:31 <bay|AX|FUNi> and it will get the funimatino treatment later on
15:53:42 <bay|AX|FUNi> and it's also a super limited run
15:54:12 <bay|AX|FUNi> we're only printing 2500 of these

I don't follow your logic. If by "Part 1" they mean a 12-13 episode set then it's the same LE MSRP they've had for years. Aniplex typically prices similar sets much higher, usually around $149, *and* they don't allow discounts (e.g. no TRSI studio sales or weekly special pricing). True, since the first run is effectively an import, it's obviously won't have a dub initially, but they say right in the text you quoted that it'll get the "full Funimation treatment" at a later date.
